Biochemicals
People have been producing chemicals and compounds by biotechnological methods for many centuries. Today's biobased chemicals are produced from renewable resources either by fermentation, or by chemical and enzymatic conversion, followed by complex product isolation and cleaning procedures.
Typical products of the already well-established biochemicals industry include amino acids, citric acid, thickeners such as xanthan gum and carrageenan, yeasts and yeast extracts, starter cultures and technical enzymes.
A major growth area for the biochemicals industry is in the biotechnological production of chemicals and compounds that would traditionally be derived from petrochemicals. Processes have already been developed to produce a range of these platform molecules using renewable resources, which will reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources.
GEA has longstandingexperience in project design and project management for large industrial biochemical plants. We can offer integrated solutions, and complete processing lines for the biochemical industries. Our expertise spans a comprehensive range of process technologies for production, purification and concentration, including:
GEA’s development centers and global process and technology expertise can support customers in the optimization of their processes and scale up, to derive and implement the most efficient and sustainable processes for biochemicals production.

GEA has great experience and large number of references in this traditional biochemical industry mainly for
A new trend in chemical production with promising potential and huge growth rates is the substitution of petrochemicals with biochemical. These so called platform chemicals will create a renewable chemistry in the near future. Processes have been developed to produce different platform-molecules like:
and many others.
GEA offers Equipment, Technology and Process competence the complete downstream-processing of these substances.
The GEA development centers worldwide support our customers to scale up and optimize their processes to maximize process feasibility.

Aseptic valves face exceptionally high demands within UltraClean and Aseptic processes. You can be assured that they all provide highest quality in terms of hygienic design and sustainability.

Ejectors, are devices for the conveyance, compression or mixing of gases, vapors, liquids or solids in which a gaseous or liquid medium serves as the motive force. They are "pumps without moving parts".

Fluid bed technology is a core technology of GEA. We supply several different types of Fluid Bed units for application within food and dairy products, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. All are applied for drying and/or cooling of particles - powders, agglomerates or pellets - and for production of agglomerates and granulates from fine powders.

GEA Hilge offers a versatile range of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps for a wide variety of sensitive applications in the beverage, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Whether it’s a fad or the future, 100% vial traceability is becoming an increasingly important consideration in the pharmaceutical freeze drying industry. Keeping a close eye on developments is GEA. We’re investigating possible solutions and, what’s more, we have the experience, expertise and know-how to implement them.
There was a time when the phrases ‘non-alcoholic beer’ and ‘tastes good’ were seldom used together in the same sentence, particularly by consumers. But low-proof and alcohol-free beers have come a long way – many of them now refreshing drinks in their own right – thanks in no small part to technology from GEA.
At GEA, our commitment to engineering for a better world fuels our pursuit of innovative solutions that enhance patient care and safety. One of our most promising ventures in recent years is aseptic spray drying – a technology that promises to revolutionize pharmaceutical manufacturing.
