Ring Dryers are a group of proprietary pneumatic type systems which are essentially a modified flash dryer with the addition of a manifold to provide selective recirculation of semi-dry material, lowering exhaust temperatures, increasing efficiency and improving product quality.
The presence of the "manifold" or "internal classifier" in the Ring drying systems are what differentiates them from the Flash dryer. The manifolds use the centrifugal forces created through passing a product containing air-stream around a curve to concentrate the product into a moving layer. Adjustable splitter blades are used to cut this layer and return the heavier, semi-dried materials back to the dryer for another pass through the system while the lighter, drier products exit the dryers and proceed to the product collection systems.

The GEA Screw Press expresses excess water from wet feed material in preparation for drying; providing material at homogeneous moisture and minimizing running costs through reducing dryer evaporation load and energy demand.
The Feed-Type Ring Dryer incorporates a top bend and simplified manifold, with the heavier material recycled via a chute into the wet feed disperser. The Feed-Type Ring Dryer is used for waste products, sludges, animal feeds, organic fertilizers and chemicals.
In addition to improving the thermal efficiency of the system, the use of the P-Type manifold in recycling the solids to a cooler section of the system, also minimizes the risk of thermal degradation. As a result the P-Type Ring Dryer is well suited to use with thermally sensitive materials including modified starches and soy fibre.
Almost any product requiring a powdered product can be dried in a Ring Dryer, which can handle a broad range of feed materials including powders, cakes, granules, flakes, pastes, gels, and slurries in addition to viscous products such as vital wheat gluten (VWG) which utilize a a proprietary feed extrusion system.
